The All Out Summer Skate at The Edge Sports Center is back in 2012!  

 
National Team, College, Elite High School and Jr. High School female hockey players come to The Edge Sports Center at Bedford for the 2012 All Out Summer Skate with Coaches Paul and Courtney Kennedy. The program will consist of on-ice training sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights.  
  
Only elite players at the National Team, College, High School, and Jr. High School  level may attend. Please complete the program application form for consideration. Each division will be limited to 40 players. Players must register in the correct Division based on the  2012—2013 season. Player movement may occur based on skill level and availability.

June 25 – 29, 2012
Skate with the Olympians - The Edge is proud to have Courtney Kennedy and a group of talented Olympic Staff to give your daughter an exciting 5-day clinic of on-ice activity.

Advanced Defense Camp - This camp is for the accomplished player looking to reach the next level at their chosen position. This camp is for highly skilled players only. This is not a learn to play defense camp.

July 30 – August 3, 2012
Total Skills Camp – This camp will focus on the development of all the necessary skills of hockey.

August 6 – 10, 2012
Overspeed Training Camp - This camp will focus on speed, power, and overspeed training. The ability for players to get out of their comfort zone is critical in skill development and for success in game situations.

August 13 – 17, 2012
Speed and Shooting Camp – This camp will focus on the development of speed both with and without the puck, along with all shooting skills.

The Edge Hockey Clinic returns for it's 5th summer in 2012. This camp will run from 8 AM - 4 PM from July 9th through July 15th. There are 3 hours of on-ice instruction per day, along with strength and conditioning training and off-ice games. Players are divided into teams for competitive games during the week, culminating in a tournament on Friday.

The Edge Sports Center and the East Coast Wizards have hired Bobby Jay to the position of Hockey Director. Bobby has been involved in playing and coaching
college and professional hockey for the past 26 years. He was most recently an assistant coach with the Harvard men's team and he is currently serving as the defensive coach for the US Women's National Team.

Bobby will be in charge of skill development and management of the Wizard boy's program, as well as working skills programs and camps at The Edge Sports Center.

The edge sports center goes solar:

Takes a shot at housing a 485kw solar pv array

Bedford, MA:  The Edge Sports Center, located in Bedford, MA, has just inked a deal with New Hampshire based Revolution Energy to install a 485 kilowatt (kW) solar photovoltaic (PV) array on the roof of the sports center. The deal with Revolution will see the Edge generate roughly one half its electric needs from their own rooftop, while helping to substantially reduce the arena’s environmental footprint. This development will be one of the largest solar arrays on a sports arena in the State and will be an example to other sports facilities in the region.

Built in 2007, The Edge has provided a wide variety of athletic opportunities for the surrounding communities, including being the home of the East Coast Wizards, Lexington/Bedford Youth Hockey, and the Bedford and Concord-Carlisle High School hockey teams. In Brian DeVellis’ eyes, one of the Edge’s founding members, this project brings the facility into a new class of its own for athletics and sustainability.

“Over the past year we have been introduced to the significant benefits and opportunities potentially available to The Edge by going solar,” said DeVellis. “We’ve seen a lot of the State embrace this technology and we said ‘why not us?’ We save energy, we save money, and we can serve as a positive example to the young athletes who use the facility regarding the benefits of sustainability.”

The solar array is expected to generate roughly 575,000 kW a year according to Revolution Energy. Under a Power Purchase Agreement, or PPA, Revolution will install, own, and maintain the array while providing for the electricity needs through the agreement. Over the past several years PPA’s have gained significant ground in the solar world given the ability for the host, in this case the Edge Sports Center, to simply pay for the energy generated from the array and avoid the up-front cost for the installation of the system. In this project The Edge has agreed to purchase all of the generated electricity the array will produce from Revolution Energy for the next twenty years, at a cost lower than they would otherwise pay for energy from the grid.

“We see this project as a win for everyone at The Edge,” said DeVellis. “The athletes that use our facility will be playing in an arena that understands the need for a more sustainable way to continue providing the high quality sports programs we have become known for.”

Revolution Energy (www.rev-en.com), a Dover, NH, based renewable energy developer feels the iron is hot for the Edge to decide to move forward with the project.

“The current opportunities available to facilities like The Edge is significant,” says Mike Behrmann, principal and co-founder of Revolution Energy. “The members at The Edge have seen the potential to save energy, along with being a model for sustainability for athletic facilities. They took a shot and will score big.”
Representatives expect the development to begin within the next several weeks with a likely commissioning date sometime in the late winter or early spring.

Women’s Hockey Basic Skills Program
                                                    
 

The Edge Sports Center is again running a Women's Hockey Skills Program for the Rec and C/D player on Thursday mornings from 9:40 - 10:40 AM. The program will focus on all the skills necessary to play hockey including, skating, stick handling, passing, shooting and basic positional play. Instruction is through a combination of drills and competitive games. Participants will need hockey skates, shin pads, elbow pads, hockey gloves, and a hockey helmet with face mask. The program will be coached by Paul Kennedy and/or Scott Fusco

The Thursday afternoon youth hockey development clinic is back for another year. This program has been very successful in teaching basic hockey skills and helping players improve all hockey skills.
